Jess Templeman

I have over a decade of programmatic, facilitation and leadership experience in organisations ranging from NGOs (Malala Fund, Arise) to government (UK and Republic of Kosovo) and local civil society (European Centre for Minority Issues Kosovo and multiple advocacy campaigns). 

My work has focused in two broad areas. Firstly, supporting the development of sustainable, locally led solutions to complex issues such as exploitation and trafficking, systemic oppression and democracy development, and girls’ access to education across the globe. Secondly, the building of teams and organisations in order to deliver services efficiently and within the ethos of the organisation. This has included programmatic, organisational and change management strategies and safeguarding policies and procedures. 

This has taken me from providing training courses and long term accompaniment on project and grant cycle management to Catholic sisters in India, Nigeria and the Philippines, to developing a tailored frontline-focused MEL app with integrated resources and facilitating network leadership retreats with Albanian NGO leaders.    

I approach all my work in a holistic and dynamic manner, bridging consulting, network building, training and research. I love working with leaders and teams to develop their own ideas and building their capacity and confidence to access donors, plan their work and develop their organisations. Fundraising 

I am a confident and dynamic fundraiser with a range of experience from large international donors to trusts, corporates and high net-worth individuals. I have successfully bid for projects with the Council of Europe, USAID, UN agencies including UNICEF and UNWomen, Conrad N Hilton Foundation, Bloomberg and Bank of America, among others. I have strong experience navigating international funding structures, including FCRA compliance in India.

Strategic Development 

Developing organisational and programmatic strategy can be overwhelming and time consuming. Often it can be hard to zoom out and see the bigger picture when you are also dealing with the day-to-day. I’ve both built strategy for my own projects and organisations, as well as coached organisations and networks to build their strategy and workplans.

Capacity coaching 

As an experienced Programmes Director and Chief Operating Officer, I understand the many moving parts, conflicting priorities and pressures, that make up managing a project or NGO. From managing a small team of five staff based in the same office, to leading a team of seven in-country representatives and their teams, I have first hand experience of the moving parts and challenging responsibilities that come with NGO leadership.
