Grantees manual
What services can you get?
Custom consulting projects to support you in your organisational development.
Most common topics: strategy, MEL and theory of change, fundraising, leadership, communication, organisational structure and roles, hiring and headhunting, human resources policies, leadership development, and more.
A project is usually between 20 hours and 8 days of consultant time, spread over one month and six months (at your convenience)
Other services we offer:
Training courses: with intimate group sizes of 6-12 participants, you'll experience personalized attention and meaningful interactions with peers. And you'll leave the course with a "tangible takeaway" to make it easy to apply to your organization. See the training program.
Leadership coaching: are you lonely at the top? Develop your leadership, improve your work life balance, learn to cope with stress, and have confidential sessions with our certified coaches.
Capacity coaching: are you building a young and emerging organization? A capacity coach is a consultant with a broad generalist experience, you can meet every two weeks to solve pressing problems: who to hire next, how to manage cash flow, how to build your board, etc. See our leadership coaches and capacity coaches!

Organizational assessments: take a deep dive and take three online sessions to explore your organizational readiness with an expert facilitator. The result is a baseline so that you can measure your progress as you build your capacity, and a roadmap of the capacity-building priorities you want to work on. Learn more
The process for consultant projects:

Browse the consultants and filter by expertise, country, and language
Choose one or more consultants and book matching calls via the "Book a meeting" button on the consultants' profiles, decide who you want to work with (we can advise you, just reach out!).
Your preferred consultant will then prepare a proposal and send it to you for approval via the CRM (you'll get a notification).
Once the project is reviewed by us and approved by the foundation (they are swift!), you and your consultant can start work.
When the work is completed, we'll send you a simple feedback form. We want to know what you learned, whether you are satisfied with the consultant, and how we can improve.
As you can see, all you have to do is focus on your needs and interview the consultants who interest you. You don't need to worry about the fees, the contract, or getting the foundation's approval, or paying the consultant: we take care of that for you!
About our consultants:
We have over 700 consultants, and their amazing diversity is what nonprofits appreciate the most about the service. They cover every topic and come from all over the world, so you can find someone who really fits your needs and understands your context.
And you work with your own consultants too! If there is someone you already know and trust, just introduce them to us and we'll onboard and hire them for you.
How much does it cost:
All the support is free! The consultant fees are generously covered by your foundation. They pay us, and we pay the consultant. So you can just focus on the learning with your consultant and not worry about how much it costs.
How much support can you get? How many projects or courses per year? This depends on your foundation: if you are not sure, then ask your foundation programme officer, or simply ask us in the chat.
Two fundamental principles at Nonprofit Builder:
You are in the driving seat. You choose the priorities, you choose the consultants, and you choose when to start.
We are here to support you. Yes, there is a CRM, but behind the CRM are Nataliia, Anna, Natasha, Lyn, Joanne, Oprah, Muqaddus, and all our team members are available for any needs. So if you need any help to choose a consultant, or if there is a delay or a problem, then reach out to :
- Asia at: asia@@nonprofitbuilder.org
- Africa at: africa@nonprofitbuilder.org
- And any other support at: support@nonprofitbuilder.org
Three groud rules for you as a grantee:
The consultants we work with are doing their best, but they are not superheroes, only humans. Do your best to give them the contextual understanding they need. And complete the work that you committed to do as part of the project.
If you are not happy with a project, or the consultant, or your priorities change, or you have no time, then tell the consultant and stop the project. It happens. But don't simply go silent!
At the end of the project we'll ask you for feedback by a form. We want to know what you learned, your satisfaction with the consultant, and how we can improve. Please tell us and please be frank! Without it, we cannot improve, and we cannot demonstrate our value to the foundations either. So this is your way to pay back the support you received!
Consultants also have their ground rules! Read the Code of Conduct for consultants.
How to use this CRM:
Dashboard
Your starting point. What you can do here:
See what urgent tasks you need to do (review and approve proposals)
See the list of all your ongoing projects
Go to the consultant browser
Invite your colleagues to create accounts and join
Consultant Browser:
You can browse by expertise, by country, by language
If you can’t find the right consultant, or you are overwhelmed by the choice, you can reach out to us on the chat:
Consultant profile page
You can read their profile, visit their website or LinkedIn
You can see their working languages, country of residence
You can see the list of what other projects they have done for other grantees
There is also a Book a Meeting button so you can send them a meeting request:
Explain your request and attach useful documents: your strategic plan, etc.
If they accept the meeting you'll get an email with their Calendly link or email so you can book a meeting with them, it looks like this:
Proposal (Consultant's SOW)
After the meeting, the consultant will send you a proposal based on your discussions. You can open it from the project’s page.
You can either accept the project or return it to the consultant for changes, or decline it. If you return it, you can comment on the sections that need to be modified. If you return it, the consultant will make the changes and return it to you.
Once it's approved by you, by us and the foundation, both you and the consultant will be notified by email and you can start work.
Status of activities
From the moment you and your consultant start working together, an activity will be created, and you can keep track of all status updates, introducing next steps here:
Feedback form
After the project is finished, the consultant will submit their report and close the project. At that moment, you will receive a notification to send your feedback about the project.
This feedback is very important; otherwise, how can we improve? So please complete it asap and please be frank. If the feedback is negative and you don’t want to share your feedback with the consultant, you can choose to do so!
Likewise, the consultant can choose to share their report with you or not.
Invite staff members:
You can invite your staff member to your organisation space. However, only the Super Admin role can do this.
Update profile:
You can completely update individual or organizational information such as email, name, avatar, and other key information if necessary
